Tuckeverlasting Chapter 1

Chapter 1
1.What was strange about the wood? What effect did it
have on the cows?

2.According to the narrator, why wasn’t Winnie curious
about the wood? Do you agree with the narrator’s
generalization?

3.Personification means to give human characteristics
to inanimate objects. Give example from the chapter
of how the road, the grass, the house, and/or the wood
are personified.

  7. The cows didn't go near the wood. Winnie wasn't curious about the wood because she owned it. Nobody cares about the wood, grass. and the road.

  8. What was strange about the wood is that the wood is like not in this world, it is in a another world. The reason why Winnie wasn't curious is because it is her family's property, she has no interest to that wood. Examples of the the chapter was normal things, but not the wood the Fosters own.

It was scary because it had thorns, spiders, and grubs.

    3. The woods make you want to whisper. The roads were closed for the cows. You just wanted to throw something at the house because it was so quiet. The meaner the grass was it edges somewhat ragged and forlorn.

    2. Winnie was not interested in the wood because her family owned it. I don't agree with the author's generalization because if I owned something, I would use it a lot. Exploring the wood would be very awesome.

    3. I Chapter One the personified the road by saying "So the road went humbly by." That meant that the road went on.

    2. Winnie wasn't curios because she never really thought about it and she didn't really care and not found it interesting. I agree with the narrator's statement because he states it clearly to understand what he means.
    3. If you passed by the house, it made you feel like you wanted to make you pass it and not see it.

  27. 1. The woods were very strange and the woods were also lonely because the woods belonged to the Fosters and the woods were private property. The woods had an effect on the cows because in the woods there were spiders and many more.
    2. Winnie was curious about the woods because they seemed really creepy and lonely, the woods were always lonely because Winnie was the only child and the woods were still private property. I also agree with the narrator because he or she was right about the woods being lonely, scary, and more.
3.The characteristics that the author is giving the trees is when he/she was saying they they were really creepy.

    2. Winnie wasn't curious because she owned the wood and it was alway there and not so pleasing.

  31. 1. The thing about the woods, that made you speak in whispers, was its scary appearance. The cows thought that they better not disturb it and let it be.
    2. Winne was not curious about the woods because she owned it. I agree with the narrator because nothing is interesting or exciting when have it.
    3. If the woods were to have human characteristics, it would be that the woods would have a scowl in-order to make you speak in whispers.

  32. 1. The strange thing about the woods was it was a creepy and mysterious place. It effected the cows by not passing the property and going to town just to get in the woods.
    2. Winnie wasn't curious about the woods because the woods belonged to her and when it is something of hers she isn't very interested in it but however when it doesn't belong to her then she gets pretty crazy about it. I do agree with the narrator's generalization.
    3. Trees would think the shadows and wind would follow a person\animal (or any noun)

  33. 1. In the book, Tuck Everlasting, the wood is a strange forest that many squirrels, birds, spiders, thorns, grubs, and a deep, damp mattress of leaves. The wood is also strange because it affected the cows, it kind of told the cows to go around the wood instead of going through.
    2. In my opinion, Winnie wasn’t so interested in the wood because she already owned it. I say this because it’s just like when you have a toy, you see it, freakout, get it, play with it for a couple day then you just forget about it.
    3. The road is like a swervy snake. The grass is like an ocean of green. The house is a touch-me-not cottage. And the wood is like a whisper.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1. The wood was strange because it gave off a look that said, “ Pass me by,” but for a different reason than the “Touch-me-not cottage.” Instead the wood looked otherworldly, tired, and scary. The wood also had an made the cows think, “ Let it keep it’s peace; we won’t disturb it.”
    2. According to the narrator, Winnie wasn’t curious about the wood because it belonged to her. He says all kids would be like that and if it didn’t belong to them, they would have an interest in it. I agree with the narrator because I have seen my little brother do a similar thing and so have I.
    3. The road, the grass, the house, and the wood are personified in many different ways. In the book it talks about the road by saying that it wandered, swayed, ambled, and cut sideways. This is personification because only humans, and animals, can do the things it says the road does in the book. Also in the book it says that the grass is rugged, forlorn, and meager. As well as the grass and the road, the house is also personificated. It mentioned that the house “suggested” that you’d better pass it by. It also said that it was so proud of itself. I’m pretty sure you know houses don’t have feelings and also don’t talk. Finally, the book added that the wood was tired, and other worldly looking.

    3) The road was always getting passed by ,the grass was in good condition, and the house was very neat. The wood was also in good condition.
